Improving quality of life for the differently-abled
Lauren’s Institute for Education (L.I.F.E.) is a pediatric therapy center that serves children with developmental disabilities throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. It was established in 2007 from the collaborative efforts of Margaret Travillion and Carrie Reed. Carrie, who is a mother of a child with special needs, and Margaret, a former habilitation provider, identified a need for an agency that could provide quality services to children in need without placing additional burdens on an already overwhelmed family. Their desire to help families and children in need manifested a center that provides music therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis, and a private academy working with over three hundred families throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Under the direction of Carrie Reed and Margaret Travillion, L.I.F.E. has accomplished many feats in its two and a half year history. It has opened and sustained a private school for children with special needs and enacted programs such as hippo and aquatic therapy, social music groups, feeding therapy, and positive play groups. Our staff of habilitation providers can frequently be found planning outings for the children at our center in order to help give opportunities for neurotypical experiences. The clients at L.I.F.E. have had the opportunity to attend sleepovers, summer camps, and trips to the movies, museums, and the zoo all through the dedication of the staff of Lauren’s Institute. L.I.F.E. also offers ongoing opportunities to provide parents with meetings involving their entire treatment team to ensure that each child has program that will further his or her development and growth. The organization spans over 14,000 square feet, has over twenty treatment rooms, including specialized sensory integration rooms and observation rooms. It is the ultimate goal of this organization to combine its three buildings into one center where a child can come to receive his or her therapies and schooling.
Lauren’s Institute for Education serves children and adults with developmental disabilities including, but not limited to, autism, cerebral palsy, and Down’s syndrome. At Lauren’s Institute for Education we believe that individuals with special needs should have access to the same experiences as any other peer. The children and adults served by this program require and exceptional amount of additional training in order to be able to fully participate in many rewarding experiences. They require specialized direct instruction in order to be successful in our society.
